Frequently asked questions

How long are the courses?
Courses run between 1-8 weeks, with the exception of the Introduction to Teacher Training. These courses have a specific time period due to the level of assessment that is required to pass these qualifications. In general the courses are part-time for 3 days a week, between 9am and 2pm. This is subject to change, and courses will be held at the Grahame Park Campus (Colindale). (Location may be subject to change.)

Can I join the courses at any time?
Hospitality courses start weekly, but an interview with lecturing staff is required beforehand. For all other courses please check on your induction day for the next available dates.

Am I eligible if not registered as unemployed?
No, if you are not registered as unemployed with JobCentre Plus then you are not eligible for the courses.

Do I need any previous experience for the courses?
Most of the courses have some basic level of English required. The IT course does require a basic level of computer use. Please click here for further information on the courses or contact course information on 020 8266 4000.

Are there any age restrictions?
You must be aged 18 or over to apply for the course

What happens if I get a job while I am on the course?
If you find work whilst you are on the course, please discuss this with the course tutor. We would like you to complete the skills training course, but understand that finding work will be a priority for you. These programmes are designed to help you back into employment, so please let us know when and what work you will start.

Can I choose more than one course?
No. Government funding rules only permit one Forward4Work course per person.

Do I have to pay?
The courses are free if you meet the eligibility criteria:

* You have been recently been made redundant or are in notice of redundancy.
* You have been unemployed for up to twelve months and are registered with JobCentre Plus as unemployed.

* You are working or living in the E.U. and have done so for the last 3 years.

If I am not eligible for the course, can I pay for the course?

No. It is not possible to pay for the courses.

Do these courses offer accredited qualifications and how will that help me when applying for jobs?
Yes, all the courses have an acredited qualification, this can be from any of the awarding bodies - City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ, EDI depending on the course you are taking. Please visit the courses page for further information. Having an additional qualification or certificate to add to your CV is always worthwhile when applying for jobs and in particular if it is relevant to the industry you want to work in. All the courses can lead to further study in that area. This can also be discussed at the enrolment guidance appointment.
